Cookies and storage

Cookie Policy

This policy explains the small amount of storage VerifiedGig uses, why it is needed, and how you can control it.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. The site can read it again on a later request. Cookies are used for things like keeping you signed in, remembering preferences, and measuring how a site is used.

Some cookies are set by the site you are visiting. Others are set by third parties, such as analytics or advertising networks. This policy covers both, and it also covers similar technologies such as local storage and session storage.

The cookies we use

The public VerifiedGig website sets no cookies of its own, and it does not load analytics, advertising or third-party tracking scripts. Reading the home page, the Trust & Safety page, the legal pages or the application form does not place a cookie on your device.

The only cookies we use are strictly necessary session cookies for the staff portal. When a member of our staff signs in to the admin portal, our authentication provider sets one or more cookies whose names begin with “sb-” and end in “-auth-token”. They:

  • Keep the staff member signed in while they review applications.
  • Are marked HttpOnly, so page scripts cannot read them.
  • Are marked Secure and SameSite, so they are not sent over plain HTTP or from unrelated sites.
  • Expire when the session ends or the refresh token is revoked.

These cookies are not used on the applicant-facing site, they contain no applicant information, and they are never set for ordinary visitors.

Local storage and similar technology

We do not use local storage, session storage, tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts or advertising identifiers on the public site. If that changes, this page will list each item and what it is for before it is introduced.

Why there is no cookie banner

Consent is not required for cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service the user has asked for. Because the only cookies we set are authentication cookies for staff, we do not show a consent banner.

If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies in the future, we will ask for your consent first and give you a way to withdraw it.

How to control cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The controls are usually under Settings, then Privacy or Security. The website of your browser explains the exact steps.

Blocking cookies will not affect the public pages or the application form. It will stop you from signing in to the staff portal, because the authentication cookie is required for that.

If you use more than one browser or device, you will need to change the settings on each one.

Changes to this policy

If we change the cookies we use, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will ask for consent where the law requires it.
